Washing your hands and wearing a face mask are your best defense against the spread of COVID-19, but for many it is taking a toll on their skin. Warm water is adequate (though for some masks, a cold wash is preferableagain, check the manufacturers instructions). If you consistently break out in a rash or acne when you wear a cloth face mask, look to the layer of the mask that lies closest to your face. At $20 for a pack of 25, the filter-layer refills are more expensive than if you were to simply double mask, though the breathability factor may be well worth the investment for some people. Otherwise, youre not taking advantage of the filters fullest potentialdroplets tend to sneak through portions of a mask with the least resistance. And non-woven materials, such as the polypropylene layers in surgical and (presumably) surgical-style masks, can bolster protection against outgoing and incoming particles.
